To ensure smooth operation of your device, please consider the following points before commissioning:
1. ๐ Disable SIM PIN Protection
Issue: The device cannot establish a cellular connection or crashes unexpectedly.
Cause: The SIM card is protected by a PIN code.
Solution: Disable the SIM PIN protection before inserting the SIM card into the device. This can usually be done via the settings of a mobile phone.
2. ๐ถ Insert SIM Card Correctly
Issue: No network connection is possible.
Cause: The SIM card was not inserted correctly.
Solution: When inserting the SIM card, ensure it clicks firmly into place. A distinct clicking sound confirms proper insertion.
3. ๐ Configure NTP Time Server
Issue: Time mismatches between system time and actual time can lead to certificate errors, connection issues, or incorrect log data.
Solution: After the device's first boot, configure an NTP server to automatically synchronize the system time.
4. ๐ก Check Mobile Signal
Issue: No network registration or communication is possible.
Cause: Poor signal reception due to unsuitable antenna positioning or location.
Solution:
-
Position the antenna closer to a window or move it outside to improve reception.
-
Check the signal strength in the deviceโs web interface under "Modem Status".
5. ๐ก Set the APN
Issue: The device is registered in the network but cannot send SMS.
Cause: Missing or incorrect APN entry under "Status" > "Modem Status". SIM card is not SMS-enabled or not activated.
Solution:
-
Set the correct APN under "Status" > "Modem Status". You can find the correct APN online or obtain it from your mobile provider.
-
If you're unsure whether your SIM card is activated, insert it into a mobile phone and check its status, or contact your provider.
โ ๏ธ Note: An incorrect APN may cause the device to crash or reboot unexpectedly.
6. ๐ Gateway Not Reachable on the Network
Issue: After a restart, the gateway loses its IP address or becomes unreachable.
Cause: Temporary IP was set via the console. No DHCP server is active. Default gateway is undefined.
Solution:
-
Set a temporary IP address along with subnet and default gateway using a console cable and a terminal program such as PuTTY.
-
Then, assign a static IP address via the web interface under "Configuration > Network".
